School of Gender and Women’s Studies at Makerere University

The School of Women and Gender Studies at Makerere University is a multidisciplinary academic unit within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Established in 1991, it aims to provide intellectual leadership in mainstreaming gender in academia and beyond. The school focuses on teaching, research, outreach, networking, and gender mainstreaming. It also aims to train professionals who can integrate gender into decision-making and policy-making.

The School of Women and Gender Studies is a member of Africa LEEPS Alliance for Evidence and Equity in Policymaking in Africa (AEEPA) Initiative.
